Weekly update

Well, this past week has been much more relaxed. No big events, just normal stuff...except for one event in our house. Last Tuesday night, only a couple hours after my last posting, Isaac had an unfortunate run-in with his bedroom doorknob. Allow my to explain...after calling Audrey a bad name, and then lying about it to Randy, he was sent to his room for a time-out after getting soap in his mouth. That caused a fit of excellent 3-year-old proportions... screaming, crying, flinging himself to the floor. After a minute or so, Randy came in the room to tell him he had to calm down before he could come out and eat dinner with the family. Isaac, however, had no interest in calming down and so he got put in his pajamas (one step closer to going to bed early). Now the fit was escalating...more screaming and crying, and now kicking the door. After quite a while (maybe 5 minutes...which seemed liked an hour) the kicking and screaming stopped. Randy noticed that Isaac's shadow was no longer showing under the door so he went in to check and see if he was ready to rejoin the family. Unfortunately, Isaac had gotten himself up off the floor but was still standing right in front of it. He is just the right height that when Randy opened the door the doorknob hit him right on the eye. It immediately started bleeding, into his eye and down his cheek, making it hard to tell where exactly the cut was. After a couple minutes of holding him and pressing a cold washcloth on his eye, we packed into the van to go to Urgent Care. The doctor saw him right away and said he "might" need one stitch, but he'd still have to wait his turn until he could do that. Since there was about 15 other kids in the waiting room we knew that it could be one, even two hours! Well, from previous experience (Randy cutting his eyelid open on my Civic hatchback door when we were dating), we knew that if we held the cold compress and cloth in place, it would close up on it's own in an hour or two and then we could clean it up and put a butterfly bandage on it. So we went home and Isaac laid in my lap until he fell asleep, while I kept a cold compress and/or pressure on it for the next while. Once he was asleep we cleaned it off and put some steri-strips on it so he wouldn't reopen it in the night or if he rubbed it. Randy felt horrible about the whole thing. But after a couple days of talking with friends and coworkers, he's found out that there's a lot of other parents who have had similar things happen with their kids...heads or fingers shut in car doors, falling off jungle gyms or bikes, etc. I think we just figured Isaac's first major "accident" would be because of his risky or active behavior...not a fit behind his bedroom door. Well, the top picture we took on Thursday morning...that's when it looked the worst...the bruising was really showing. But last night, the strips were falling off, along with a scab, and he looks like this! I don't even think he'll have a scar. Well, aside from that our week has been normal. Here's a couple more pics of normal stuff.Audrey reading Isaac a library book.

I'm really not sure what to say about Isaac's boo-boo! Everybody gets em! Grandpa jammed a 2x4 into his chest at the new house site and it hurt so much I couldn't even hug him! But he's okay now! Love you in Kansas!

Didn't seem to slow him down at all! Can't wait to hear him tell the story when he is an adult... "Yep, when I was 3, my dad slammed my head into a door and my eyeball popped out! He just shoved it back in and I was fine."

Yep, Mark accidentally nicked Aaron's eye with a car door in almost the same place as Isaac--I think he even has a little scar. And I closed the back car door on his fingers at church when he was about four--and then panicked when I couldn't find the keys. It happens. But Tracy's right--he'll come up with a good story... Cindy
