Today Isaiah has been with us for one month! Since I can't post any pictures and personal info like height, weight, etc. I thought I'd share something else!
Things Isaiah has learned in the past month...
how to say milk, more, all done, please, and water in sign language (which has consequently inspired Violet to learn a bunch of signs recently).
how to blow kisses and give kisses.
how to turn the pages of a book, right to left, not to mention learning what a book IS (although we don't always sit still to listen to a whole book).
how to wave bye bye, and hello (same thing).
how to stop what he's doing when Mom or Dad says, "uh-oh, not for Isaiah".
how to fuss when he needs something (this may sound silly, but the first week he didn't fuss at all, so we weren't sure when he was hungry, tired, sleepy, or uncomfortable. Although he has other signs for these things, and is starting to communicate with sign language, it is encouraging to think that he is learning that "when I fuss, a caregiver will respond to my needs").
how to get himself to sleep in a crib, for a good 90 minute nap, instead of 10-20 minutes in a carseat.
how to drink from a sippie cup.
how to NOT pinch when he gets nervous (himself or the person holding him).
Things we have learned (or been reminded of) in the past month...
that Isaiah, a 13-month old, is the perfect height to reach and pull off the placements from the table, including the dishes that are on top of them!
that 13 month-olds like to open cupboards, especially ones with pots and pans in them.
that 13-month olds don't like to watch TV, they like to bang on them, as well as computer keyboards.
that 13-month-olds like to unroll toilet paper tubes.
that 13 month-olds can empty a bookcase in a matter of minutes.
that 13 month-olds can plunge a toy into an open toilet in a matter of seconds...without being seen.
that chasing a 13 month-old can be exhausting!
that a child must be taught to kiss and hug.
that a child must be taught how to read a book.
that a child must be taught that Mommy and Daddy and Jesus love him.

A Wii-diculously fun birthday!
Isaac celebrated his birthday this weekend! Since adding a fourth child to our family only 3 weeks ago, we decided to go low-key for a birthday celebration, which was fine with Isaac since all he wanted was a sleepover with his best buddy C.J. and play Wii late into the night. We had Grandma Arlene, Uncle Kevin and the rest of the Bergen family over for dinner on Friday night to kick off the fun!
And after many, many months (honestly, probably over a year) of riding a bike that was entirely too small for him, we got him a new bike for his birthday...no more coaster brakes!
And he got a few other good gifts too!
He and C.J. had a blast together, playing Wii until 10 p.m. when mean ol' mommy put an end to the fun and turned the lights out since Isaac had a play-off baseball game Saturday morning at 8 a.m. They were troupers, climbing into their sleeping bags on the living room floor and going right to sleep, only to wake up at 6 a.m. to get in a good hour of Wii play before having to eat breakfast and get dressed to leave for the field. We did lots of fun things throughout the day, got donuts to share with his teammates to celebrate his birthday, played more Wii after getting home (and I mean LOTS more, but hey, it's his birthday), went swimming in the afternoon, and even set up our new tent in the evening to sleep in the living room with big sister!
They had a great time resting and reading in it, but after the lights went out it took only 10 minutes before they wanted to sleep in their separate beds (they each didn't have "enough" space). All in all, I think Isaac had a great weekend! Happy birthday Isaac! We love you sooo much!

In the swing of Spring
Well, although we are trying to keep things calm and peaceful with the addition of kid #4, the routine plods on as Spring offers LOTS of activities to do! Isaac was selected to play in the All Stars game of his baseball league. Like I mentioned in the prior post about baseball, Isaac's coach likes to move the boys around, letting them try lots of positions. He let Isaac throw a few pitches one game and he tends to get at least one or two innings a game since. Isaac got to pitch one inning at the All Stars game as well!
He also played an inning at third.
Audrey is enjoying softball with her school team! Last week she played center field and went one for two, hitting a double to help her team win!

In other news, Isaiah is adjusting well, getting in the groove of our family. He has been a trooper this week as we've taken one, sometimes two outings a day! Also, just after Randy was home for a week and completely finished the backyard project, raised beds in place, little seedlings and seeds planted, drip lines in place, one of the main pipes in the middle of the grass burst, flooding the yard on Monday. Isaac was great and helped Randy dig some holes to figure out where exactly the crack was!
And if we don't have enough things to do this weekend, we'll have that to fix now that all the water has dried up and the ground is good enough to work on! Whew! Good thing Isaiah is sleeping through the night and we can recharge every day with a good night's sleep!
