A Day at the Snow

It has been over two years since our family has been in the snow! We had snow for Christmas last time we were in Kansas with my parents (Dec. 2004). Last winter we had every intention of getting up to the mountains in the snow at least once, but with a 2 month old baby, it's kinda hard. So this Saturday, after a week of wet weather (which meant lots of snow in the mountains nearby), the sun was shining and it looked to be a beautiful day to head up to the snow. We all packed into the Subaru (since it has all-terrain tires and steering) and headed up to the spot we normally camp at in the summer...Isaac said he wanted to see the burned trees (the Giant Sequoias). We spent about an hour and a half playing in the snow (there was 37 inches on the ground!)...that was all the kids could handle considering we had no snow clothes, just some rubber boots for both the older kids. Isaac at least had rain gear from head to toe, but socks for gloves (he couldn't get his fingers into the waterproof gloves we had for him...he ended up throwing a fit about it). Audrey got pretty wet; considering she stepped into snow up to her knees at places...the snow was nice and clean and powdery. She had a blast though. Violet wasn't too keen on playing in the snow, although she did enjoy eating it. After a while being in the snow and having a picnic lunch, we dried the kids off, put on some new clothes, and drove a little farther to walk around the big trees. The path was cleared half-way around and we enjoyed a leisurely walk through the trees and then headed home. The kids had a great time!

Another tid-bit of interest this week...Audrey continued to practice her computer and spelling/writing skills in a new way this week. She "i-chatted" with Uncle Aaron this week (that's when both people are on-line and they write messages back and forth to each other). She did a great job too!
