Thanksgiving week

Yeah, this is super-late, but we had some good pictures from the past two weeks that I wanted to post before I started in on my Christmas pictures!

The week before Thanksgiving, Isaac's class went to Scout Island for a field trip. It was a really fun (but REALLY cold) day of exploring the San Joaquin riverbed, hiking around the area, listening to talks on animals in the area and indigenous groups that used to populate the area, as well as a painting time! Here's Isaac and his buddy Joseph, leaving for their cross-country meet!

Speaking of cross-country, both Isaac and Audrey have enjoyed running this season. Next Thursday is their final meet. It has been challenging having both kids in meets, but at different schools some weeks. However, I've managed to see every race this season and next week their schools are both out at Woodward on the same day, so I lucked out! Randy and I are so proud of them for being involved in a physical activity like running, and enjoying being part of a team effort!

To celebrate Thanksgiving, Violet's class enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast, complete with pilgrim and Indian costume hats!

Pilgrim hats are also good for giving toys "sleigh rides" when you're not wearing them!

The kids had the entire week of Thanksgiving off from school! Monday was spent completely relaxing and playing with neighborhood friends, as well as a trip to the library. Tuesday I drove with the kids to Visalia to entertain Grandma Verle with a private piano concert (each of the kids had 2 pieces to play, then I played 2 pieces as well as some hymns at Grandma's request), which was her birthday present! Wednesday was more relaxing! Lucy enjoyed listening to Violet read her some of the library books.

Thanksgiving Day was spent at Grandma Arlene's. Grandma invited some friends from her work to join us for the day...the more the merrier at the Mack house!

The day after Thanksgiving we drove to San Jose to spend the weekend with my parents. For the past 11 years we've spent our holidays with either one family or the other, with my parents living in Kansas. Now we get to celebrate with both sides! That evening we went into downtown to see the tree lighting, which officially kicked off their "Christmas in the Park".

Waiting for the lights!

Now waiting for the merry-go-round. On either side of the downtown park area, the walkways are filled with midway rides. We promised the kids one ride after waiting so long for the tree lighting.

After all that fun we returned to my parents' house for popcorn and the first viewing of Elf for the season! Saturday was spent in the kitchen, cooking a turkey dinner which we enjoyed with some of my parents' friends that evening, complete with three kinds of homemade pie! Sunday we returned home in time to have a relaxing dinner and watch the Steelers game before getting the kids in bed (on time for the first time that week) to get a good nights' sleep before returning to school on Monday!

We hope all of you had a chance to spend time with family and friends this Thanksgiving, and take some time to reflect on all the many things we have to be thankful for!
