Last weekend our family took a quick "study" trip up to San Jose. Fourth grade curriculum covers California history, the migration west, Native Americans, the Gold Rush, as well as the missions. This month Isaac had to choose a mission and do a project that he would present to the class. He said he wanted to do a power point with pictures that he had taken. That would mean we'd have to visit it in person. He had it all planned out though; he picked the San Jose mission so we could stay with Grandma and Grandpa for a weekend. Audrey had chosen the Santa Cruz mission
two years ago and we'd also made a weekend of it, even went to the beach a bit. Well, we didn't have a whole weekend. But we didn't have plans last Saturday. So, after work on Friday evening we drove up to San Jose, stayed the night with my parents, and visited the mission on Saturday morning. The Old San Jose mission is actually in Fremont, about a 20 minute drive from my parents' house. The Santa Clara mission is just 2 minutes up the road! I guess Violet can choose that one in a couple years. We relaxed together for the afternoon, had a nice dinner together and then drove home. Now the project work begins! Isaac let Randy take some "back up" pictures in case some of his didn't turn out...so some of these are Randy's. To those parents that have kids not yet in fourth grade, I would really recommend this mission! The museum attached was full of good information, pictures, artifacts and more, covering the history of the missions as well as the Native Americans, specifically the Ohlone tribe.

Since Isaac is standing in front of the sign for this item...can anyone tell me what this is? We thought it was so cool! |

I thought Isaac showed a neat perspective on this one! |

He waited an extra long time on this one for the wind to blow the flag "just right" for a picture! |
